New Officers Sworn in at Milton Police Department
After an eight-month process, three new officers were sworn in at the Milton Police Department Headquarters on Friday.
They made it through an extensive screening process, an intensive residential State Police Academy, a thorough five-week training program with a senior officer, and finally on Friday, February 25, the newest members of the were sworn in.
All three new officers grew up in Milton and applied to be officers after working in the cadet program. Now after being sworn in by Town Clerk James Mullen, the new officers— Christopher Ernst; Belcher Circle, Robert Ranton; Franklin Street and Christopher Potts; Truro Lane—are full-fledged members of the department.
After passing through a full screening and interview process, Ernst, Ranton and Potts headed to the State Police Academy in New Braintree, Mass.

During the program, the three men lived at the facility in western Massachusetts from Monday through Thursday. Potts said the para-military environment took a few weeks to get used to, but eventually they adapted.
Upon graduating the program in January, Ernst, Ranton and Potts entered the final step of the process. They each trained with a senior officer and could not patrol on their own.

After Friday's brief swearing in ceremony, the three Milton natives and former cadets are ready to step out on their own.
