Plots at Milton Cemetery to be Sold 'As Needed'
The change goes into effect on December 1.

Soon, you won’t be able to plan ahead if you want Milton Cemetery to be your final resting place.
Starting Dec. 1, the town-owned cemetery will only sell burial plots as needed to those with a death in the family.
Cemetery superintendent Therese Desmond tells the Boston Globe that the elected cemetery trustees “assessed the inventory of graves we have available, and decided they want to preserve what is currently available for immediate need’’ until a new section can be developed.

According to Desmons, the cemetery was opened in 1672 and there are 30,000 burials plots remaining, placing availability near their limits.
The town is looking at developing a vacant area of the cemetery which would provide about 1,200 more spots and the town also is working on acquiring additional land next to the cemetery which would accommodate a similar number of graves.
