Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

The Quincy man who allegedly shot an off-duty Milton Firefighter in December was indicted by a Norfolk County Grand Jury yesterday. Robert O'Connell, 40, will be arraigned Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Norfolk Superior Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. The armed assault charge carries a penalty of up to 20 years in State Prison. The assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge carries a penalty of 15 years. Assistant District Attorney Brian Wilson will be handling the case. O'Connell was arrested a few days after a December 12, 2009 shooting that left 30-year-old Milton Firefighter, Joseph Fasano, with life-threatening injuries. Fasano was shot in the abdomen near the intersection of Hancock Street and Commander Shea Boulevard in Quincy, after an alleged road rage confrontation. O'Connell is the son of Quincy developer Peter O'Connell, who among other projects, developed Marina Bay where Robert currently resides. O'Connell is currently free on $500,000 cash bail.
