Thacher Montessori School Concert Aids Ebola Preparedness in Ghana
Student and alumni bands donate over $600 to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana

In May 2014, Thacher Montessori School music teacher Victor McSurely (a longtime Boston Blue Man Group band member) began working with Thacher musicians past and present on a year-end benefit concert to support the work of Doctors Without Borders. With current students performing in the first half of the program and some of them staying to play with Thacher alumni in a two-year old band called Camp 11, the musicians raised over $600. A few months later, Victor received a letter from Dr. Sari Soghoian, Clinical Coordinator of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana—thanking Thacher for the donation, which they used to purchase medical supplies essential to combating the Ebola outbreak. The Thacher community discovered that work on world peace can happen in many forms, and that we can give hope to (as well as draw hope from) difference-makers.
