Thacher Montessori School Speaker Series: Dr. Michael Thompson, on Understanding the Social Lives of Children
Thacher Montessori School Speaker Series October 16, 2014, 7 pm. Open to the public

Thacher Montessori School is pleased to announce that Michael Thompson, Ph.D., will be speaking about the social lives of children as part of Thacher’s Speaker Series. Based on his “wise and insightful” book Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children, (co-authored by Catherine O’Neill Grace and Lawrence Cohen, Ph.D.) Dr. Thompson will share stories and insights about how children’s social lives grow and develop. Friendship plays a very important role for children. Friends are confidants, and share in the joys of children’s lives; however, those same friends can also tease, exclude, and betray children. Dr. Thompson’s guidance can help parents share in the joys and secrets of their children’s social lives from toddlerhood through adolescence.
Some questions that will be touched upon are: What is the difference between friendship and popularity? Do all children need a best friend? Why do cliques form, and what can parents do about them?
The public is invited to join the Thacher Community for this engaging presentation on Thursday, October 16 at 7 pm at Thacher Montessori School, 1425 Blue Hill Avenue, Milton. Admission is $15 at the door. For more information, please call 617-361-2522 x.10, or email frontdesk@thacherschool.org.
