Love Stinks, a Triangle About a Boy: Go Ask Wally
This week, Wally helps a girl who loves a boy who's already with another girl. Love stinks.

NATICK, MA - He’s already a bonafide Internet sensation, and probably the biggest bunny celebrity to hit social media. Wally the Bunny has 217,000 followers on Instagram, and he’s been featured in numerous media outlets, including People Magazine, CNN, Good Morning America and the Boston Globe.
Now, Wally (and Molly) are going to assist and entertain Patch readers each week with the advice column “Go Ask Wally.” Each week, we’ll field questions from readers, and pick the most interesting one, with Wally answering one question each Monday on Natick Patch.
QUESTION: Hiiii Wally! So, could you offer any advice about a love triangle? I am in deep adoration of this guy, where we try and talk as much as possible throughout the day, and he’s a guy who has truly cared more about me than any other “boy” out there (emphasis on boy) BUT, he’s with someone else. Recently, we came across this song called “I hate you I love you” from Gnash and that has to be the most relatable song to us. I hear the song and tears instantly fall.

Well anyway, thanks for this opportunity and Wally; you’re the cutest!

ANSWER: Hi, Monica! It’s ME, Wally! Thank you for writing! Hate and love at the same time?! What a peculiar phenomenon! Isn’t it funny that we can hate someone AND love someone?! Feelings are so confusing! For the purposes of this response, I’ll call this boy “Boy.” (As you see, I’ve put “emphasis on boy” like you said.) I’d first like to address your tears. Crying is an excellent way to express and release your feelings. Tears are sources of bravery and power! In fact, when I cry, I collect my tears and concoct a Power Potion - it’s the power of your emotions in a bottle! (More about this later.)

It sounds like you and Boy have a wonderful friendship. But you must remember that you deserve to be with someone who wants and chooses to be with you, too! If this relationship is making you sad and distressed, it’s time to access your Power Potion. The tears from your sadness and frustration and anger must be turned into POWER that you use to bring happiness to yourself! Below, I have created an action plan for you to follow.
Wally’s Action Plan for Monica and Boy:
PART ONE
Communicate your genuine feelings to Boy and talk about what it would take to be in a happy relationship together. The male voice in the song says, “love and trust are gone.” If this is true, discuss how you can capture that again!
A. If you and Boy do not decide to be in a romantic relationship, skip to PART TWO.
B. If you and Boy decide to be in a romantic relationship, follow these steps:
- Ask Boy if he can commit to ending his other relationship.
- If Boy says “yes” – hurray! Enjoy a wonderful relationship!
- If Boy says “no” – skip to PART TWO.
PART TWO
If you and Boy do not decide to be in a romantic relationship or if Boy cannot commit to ending his other relationship, choose one of the following options:
Option A: Continue your friendship only if you can do so without experiencing sadness and despair about Boy’s other relationship.
Option B: Take a break from Boy. Allow him to continue on with his relationship and focus on YOU. Develop other relationships and friendships.
Remember, Monica, although the female voice in the song sings, “I can’t put nobody else above you,” there IS one person you must put above Boy. And that is YOU! Based on your action plan, find an arrangement with Boy that makes YOU happy. Allow your Power Potion to lead the way, Monica! Good luck!
Wally (and his mom) fields questions that range from life’s conflicts and local politics to social etiquette to general hygiene and fashion tips. If Wally thinks the question is beyond his scope of expertise, he will pass it to his administrative team.
So what say you? Have you a question for Wally? We will compile them here at Patch and feature one question and answer each week. Send your questions to charlene.arsenault@patch.com. Or post your query in the comments section.
