Babson College dining introduces authentic Indian recipes with help from Freshman families
Babson College Dining Services by Sodexo saw an opportunity to enhance the student experience.
A wellness panel held during Babson College Freshman orientation resulted in expanded global cuisine on campus.
When a parent at the panel raised a question about the availability of vegetarian, Indian cuisine on campus, Babson College Dining Services by Sodexo saw an opportunity to enhance the student experience.
After the presentation, General Manager Shawn Monaghan and Rachel Oppenheimer RD, LDN met with Indian families from Mumbai, Bombay, Los Angeles, and Japan, to discuss cooking techniques, authentic ingredients, and recipes.

“A couple of the mothers offered to come in to the kitchen to actually give our culinary staff cooking lessons on how to make authentic Indian cuisine,” said Oppenheimer, the campus’ on-site Registered Dietitian. “Our staff was surprised about the simplicity of the dishes and the vibrant flavors they experienced.”
The families provided their favorite recipes and the culinary staff plans to add the dishes into their daily rotations. Recipes included Paneer Phurjee, Yogurt with Potato, and Chola, contributed by Harsha Siroya and Neeti Jatia from Mumbai, India.
