Highland Glee Club offers Singing Valentines on Feb. 13
Singers from the Highland Glee Club are offering people a chance to surprise their loved one with a memorable Valentine's Day gift.

NEEDHAM, Mass. — For the first time in its 107-year history, the Highland Glee Club (HGC) will be offering local husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends a chance to surprise their loved one with a fun and memorable Valentine’s Day gift, as a quintet of performers from the group will perform Singing Valentines on Friday, Feb. 13.
The group will meet your loved one when and where you specify and sing three classic love songs (“Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, “Heart of My Heart (The Story of the Rose)“, and “I Love You Truly”). The $60 package also includes a single red rose and a card with a personalized message from the person who purchased the Singing Valentine.
The promotion is available in Needham, Newton and Wellesley, and half of the net proceeds will go towards the HGC’s scholarship fund.
“We’re excited to start this Singing Valentines program, and we hope it will turn into an annual tradition,” said Ron Jantzen, president of the HGC. “It’s a great, romantic Valentine’s Day gift, and it’s also a great way for us to get out in the community and raise awareness of our annual scholarship.”
The Highland Glee Club Music Scholarship carries an award of $1,500. Each year the HGC holds a competition for the scholarship, and winners in recent years have included incredibly talented vocalists and instrumentalists from the Metrowest area. The competition is open to all male and female graduating secondary school students, who have shown evidence of exceptional interest and ability in music (vocal or instrumental) and who plan to continue the study of music in college or music school. In addition, the winner will perform at the Highland Glee Club’s annual Spring Concert to be held on April 19, 2015. The deadline for application is March 6.
It’s an exciting time for the HGC. The group’s Winter Concert in December drew twice as many people as the previous year’s concert, and there was great interest from potential new members during open rehearsals, with a possible increase in membership of 25 percent over last year.
