"Inspired by Flowers" Exhibit at Needham Free Public Library

Local artist exhibits floral watercolor paintings at the Needham Library

Get ready for spring with “Inspired by Flowers,” an exhibit of watercolor paintings by Needham resident Nan Daly at the Needham Free Public Library for the month of March. Daly’s flower paintings begin with careful drawings based on the many photographs she takes whenever she is near a garden. “Because unfortunately I have no green thumb myself,” she confesses. Watercolor is applied to the drawings in traditional ways with blending and layering. Daly’s goal is representational, but not always realistic.

The exhibit also includes Daly’s abstract watercolors inspired by the shapes and colors of flowers. These paintings are not traditional watercolors. They begin loosely without a “roadmap,” and often contain unusual textures achieved by pressing materials into the wet paint.

Daly’s paintings have been exhibited at the New England Watercolor Society, the Main Street Gallery in Scituate, the Zullo Gallery, The New Art Center, the Arts Complex Museum, the Attleboro Art Museum, the Red Door Gallery, and WGBH Fine Arts Auction. She is a signature member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and a long time member of the Needham Art Association. She has won numerous awards for her art. You can see more of her work at nandaly.com and at Needham Open Studios on April 30-May 1.
