WATCH: Needham Boys' Volleyball Wins South Title

The Rockets advance to the state semi-finals.

NEEDHAM, MA - Needham High School is going to need to make some more room in their trophy case.

Tuesday night, the boys' volleyball team won the MIAA South championship, beating Greater New Bedford Vocational Tech 3-1 in a five-game series.

As detailed by the Needham Rockets Twitter account, the Rockets took a 12-9 lead in the first set before Greater New Bedford cut the lead to two at 17-15. An 8-5 run to end the set gave Needham a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, things remained tight with Needham leading 16-13 and 19-17 before taking the set 25-20.

Needham almost took the sweep up 21-18, but a 7-3 run from Greater New Bedford gave the Bears their first set and cut the Needham lead to one.

Continuing to be tight, both teams remained deadlock at 7-7 and 10-10. Needham took a 14-12 lead and didn't look back, winning the title 25-20 in the fourth set.

Needham will face North champion Westford Academy in the state semi-final on June 10 at Wellesley High School.
