Needham DAR Honors Good Citizens from Six Area High Schools
The Col William McIntosh Chapter NSDAR honored Good Citizens at the Needham Historical Society on March 5th

The Colonel William McIntosh Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored Good Citizens from six area high schools on Sunday, March 5th at the Needham Historical Society. Local author Joan Bines presented the program on her book "Words They Lived By," a lively treatment of Colonial words and phrases and their meanings then and now. Dr. Bines is the Executive Director of the Golden Ball Tavern Museum in Weston. (http://www.goldenballtavern.org/)
Winners from Needham were John ("Jack") Higgins, Needham High School and Christopher Vallace, St. Sebastian's School.
The Colonel William McIntosh Chapter sponsors six high schools for the Good Citizens Award -- Needham High, St. Sebastian's School, Medfield High, Millis High, Medway High, and Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School (Franklin, MA).

Good Citizens are selected by the faculty and student body of their schools for demonstrating unparalleled qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

About the DAR:
Any woman over the age of 18, regardless of race, creed or religion is eligible for membership in the DAR, providing she can prove direct descent from a Revolutionary War-era patriot. The National organization boasts over 180,000 members in hundreds of chapters in all 50 states and many foreign countries. Chapters are typically named after a local event, landmark, or patriot. Col. William McIntosh, who lived in Needham, fought under George Washington and was later a representative in the General Court (state legislature).
