Needham DAR Hosts Local Author for Good Citizens Meeting on Sunday, March 5th @ 1PM
Features local author Joan Bines, the Executive Director of the Golden Ball Tavern Museum in Weston - free and open to the public

The Colonel William McIntosh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will honor Good Citizens from six area high schools on Sunday, March 5th at 1pm at the Needham Historical Society. Local author Joan Bines will be the featured speaker. This meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Dr. Joan Bines is the Executive Director of the Golden Ball Tavern Museum in Weston. (http://www.goldenballtavern.org/) She will speak on her fascinating book, Words They Lived By, which explores the "then and now" of New England words and sayings.
The Colonel William McIntosh Chapter sponsors six high schools for the Good Citizens Award -- Needham High, St. Sebastian's School, Medfield High, Millis High, Medway High, and Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School (Franklin, MA). Anna Deignan, chapter vice regent and Good Citizens chairman said, "The annual Good Citizens meeting is our favorite meeting of the year. It is so inspiring to hear about these amazing students' high school careers and future plans."

Good Citizens are selected by the faculty and student body of their schools for demonstrating unparalleled qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

Any woman over the age of 18, regardless of race, creed or religion is eligible for membership in the DAR, providing she can prove direct descent from a Revolutionary War-era patriot. The National organization boasts over 180,000 members in hundreds of chapters in all 50 states and many foreign countries. Chapters are typically named after a local event, landmark, or patriot. Col. William McIntosh, who lived in Needham, fought under George Washington and was later a representative in the General Court (state legislature).
