THE NEEDHAM DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE URGES A YES VOTE IN THE SPECIAL REFERENDUM ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 12-8 PM, AT THE SENIOR CENTER, 300 HILLSIDE AVE
The Executive Committee of the Needham Democratic Town Committee strongly urges residents to vote YES in the special referendum election, to rebuild the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School, on Tuesday, September 20, 12 pm – 8 pm, at the Center at the Heights (Senior Center).
The Minuteman school facility needs a major overhaul. After many years of study, a consensus emerged among the towns that make up the Minuteman school district to rebuild the school with the assistance of $44 million in funds from the Massachusetts School Building Assistance Program. Alternatives, such as incremental repairs, would likely cost Needham more in the long run while underserving the students. Notwithstanding this, one (and only one) of the 16 towns in the district has rejected the proposal, requiring a special district-wide referendum to proceed.

The building plan is supported by 15 of 16 member towns. In Needham, the building plan was unanimously approved by Needham Town Meeting in May 2016, with positive recommendations from the Needham Board of Selectmen, School Committee, and Finance Committee. Town Meeting had been informed and updated on the progress of this issue for many years and made an informed decision on this matter. A YES vote is now needed to move the project forward.
