Needham Girls' Lacrosse Capture State Title

An 8-5 win over Longmeadow has given the Rockets the Division 1 Championship!

BOSTON, MA — With one of their toughest opponents of the year, it took plenty of defense to bring a state championship to Needham.

The girls lacrosse team left Nickerson Field at Boston University Saturday afternoon with a new championship trophy, beating Longmeadow 8-5 for the MIAA Division 1 Championship.

The slim lead called for a strong defensive effort from Needham. With the Rockets up 3-1 in the first half, Longmeadow was at one point held without a goal for 13 minutes before the decreasing the Rockets' lead to two.

It would be a while before the Western Massachusetts champions would score again as Needham would hold Longmeadow to two goals until the second half.

Longmeadow would go on a little run to make it a 7-5 game with 9:36 remaining but that would be as close as they would get.
