Needham Police Log: Man on the Side of the Road, Identity Theft, and More

The following is from the Needham Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

April 20

9:30 a.m. - An officer was dispatched to speak with a Brackett Street resident about a possible issue with his internet security. The resident was advised to contact his internet career, as well as the credit bureaus in case any private information was compromised.

4:30 p.m. - An officer responded to a Cutler Road residence for a report of a suspicious party on the property. The reporting party said she saw an unfamiliar male on her front steps. He quickly left the area when he saw her. Another officer stopped the car on South Street. After speaking with the occupants it was determined to be a simple misunderstanding.

April 21

11:30 a.m. - An officer took a fraud report from a walk-in party. The victim stated that on the previous day, she gave her personal information over the phone to a party identifying themselves as the IRS. The incident was documented and the victim was advised as to further steps to safeguard her identity.

5:20 p.m. - An officer stopped a vehicle on Greendale Avenue near Park Street. As a result of the investigation, the operator, Michael Ashley, 38, of Waltham, was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possessing an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

7:30 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Brentwood Circle residence to investigate a report of possible fraud. The resident reported receiving a telephone call from the IRS. The person wished to report the incident.



April 22

A resident came into HQ to report that someone had used her social security number to file a tax return. The resident became aware of this when their accountants filed their taxes. The resident filed a report with the FTC.

1:30 p.m. - An officer was flagged down by an operator who reported a disturbance with another operator. The matter is under investigation.

5:10 p.m. - An officer responded to the area of Highland Avenue near the 128 North on-ramp for a report of a male party lying on the side of the road. It was determined that the party was intoxicated and unable to care for himself. A 34-year-old Pembroke man was placed in protective custody and transported back to the police station.
