Needham Student Selected to be Sports Illustrated Kid Reporter

Maxwell Surprenant, of Needham, was selected as a 2015 Sports Illustrated Kids Kid Reporter.

His application included the results of an interview he conducted with Boston Red Sox pitcher Craig Breslow about the left-hander’s Strike 3 Foundation.

Surprenant also wrote a 200-word essay about why he wanted to be an SI Kids reporter. 15 children, including Maxwell, were chosen from submissions from applicants across the nation.

According to the writer’s bio featured on SI Kids, Maxwell’s favorite sports journalist is Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy. His favorite music group is Boston punk band Dropkick Murphys.

Maxwell Surprenant founded and serves as the creative director of Catching Joy, Inc., a non-profit that promotes acts of kindness and volunteerism beginning with young children and their families.
