Needham Wrestlers Head to States
Needham Wrestlers participate in Div. I State Championship
The Needham Rockets’ qualifying wrestlers travelled to Methuen High School on Friday to compete in the Division 1 State championships. Senior wrestler Travis Szetela, at 145 pounds, making his first appearance at States, didn’t disappoint. Although he lost his first match of the day, he came back to win his next two matches against powerhouse Springfield Central (pin) and Putnam (points) earning him a spot for day two of competition. He ultimately finished in 8th place among 16 wrestlers from across Massachusetts and capped a four year Varsity run. Junior Lucas Goldman won his first match on Friday against Putnam (pin) but lost his next match against a tough BC High opponent. In a repeat matchup from Sectionals the previous week, Goldman dominated the wrestler from Cambridge Rindge and Latin keeping him in competition for day two. Goldman then continued his run with a 12-0 victory over Minnechaug ultimately putting him in 6th place in his weight class of 152 pounds. Senior captain Dan Goldstein, made his third trip to States and finished his four year Varsity career with 76 wins. Goldman will travel to Salem High School this Friday where Divisions I, II and III will meet to compete at the All States Championships.
