New Hillside School Passes Town Meeting
Special Town Meeting voted to approve Article 2, which authorizes the town's request for $57.5 million to construct the new school.

NEEDHAM, MA — The new Hillside Elementary School is one step closer to reality.
Wednesday night, Special Town Meeting voted to approve Article 2, which authorizes the town's request for $57.5 million to construct the new school.

The total budget for the project is $66 million, with about $8.46 million already appropriated for the feasibility design and land acquisition.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority is expected to reimburse a portion of a project, with the total anticipated to be between about $13-14 million.
The school is scheduled to open in time for the 2020-21 school year, but an accelerated schedule could see the doors opening a year early.

The next step for the project is a debt exclusion vote on the November election ballot. A debt exclusion is a temporary tax increased that is often used to pay for large capital projects.
