Olin College Dining deploys innovative dining app

A new dining app makes it easy for students, faculty, staff and visitors to put daily menus and nutritional analysis in the palm of their hands.
Called “Bite,” the app was designed by Sodexo, dining services partner at Olin College. Users download the app and enter an access code for Olin College to get the day’s menus. Guests can also rate their dining experience from this new easy tool.
“Bite shows consumers everything we are serving – in our main dining location,” said Sodexo General Manager David Nadreau. “What’s great is that our consumers see only our menu, and the details of what we are serving on that day.”

When consumers select an item or scan the POS barcode, they’ll get a description, ingredients, and complete nutritional information.
“They can rate the item, and if they love it, they can mark it as a favorite,” said Nadreau. “Bite will even let them know when it’s on the menu again.”

Consumers want to understand what’s in their meal – the ingredients, and especially the nutritional information. Bite provides a level of transparency previously unknown to the industry, with clear product descriptions and graphical representations for every nutritional category. There’s no more guessing when comparing one product to another.
“This is another great example of how we support our dining guests by making it easy for them to learn about our menus and nutritional content in the food we serve,” said Nadreau. “The best part is that the app has all the nutrition and allergen info on it and links to fitbit, a fitness app which tracks every part of the day—including activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep.”
