Field Hockey Starts With Two Wins, Football Falls at Natick (needhamlocal.org) — Needham High's field hockey team has opened the season with two dominant wins, including an 8–0 home shutout at DeFazio Park, while Rockets football struggled in a lopsided loss at Natick. Fans can look ahead to key field hockey matchups at Wellesley and a home game against Milton, plus upcoming football trips to Lincoln-Sudbury and a home date with St. John's Prep.

Miles completes solo journey of the Charles (hometownweekly.net) — Needham resident Mike Miles spent four days tracing the Charles River from Hopkinton to Boston by kayak and on foot, documenting every challenge on video. He explains how he planned the route, balanced safety with filming, and hopes his YouTube series inspires locals and his kids to tackle difficult adventures close to home.

3. 5 for Good: Needham nonprofit helps students with clothing, essentials for school (wcvb.com) — A Needham-based nonprofit, Circle of Hope, is stepping up to provide clothing, hygiene items, and dorm essentials to students facing housing insecurity as school starts. Working with shelters, schools, and UMass Boston, the group now has a waitlist for help and is asking Needham-area residents to support its expanding efforts.

4. Fire activity near Ruggles disrupts multiple Commuter Rail lines (wcvb.com) — MBTA riders on the Needham Line faced midday delays when Train 645 was held at South Station for 15 to 25 minutes because of fire department activity near Ruggles. The incident also disrupted Providence and Franklin line trains, with some trips ending early or skipping key downtown stops while officials worked to restore normal service.
