Due to weathering of the Town Hall cupola and clock, the Building Maintenance Division has contracted with a company to restore the assets. The Town Hall cupola restoration project will include:
- Removal of the gold leaf clock hands, numerals, and minute markers
- Scraping each clock face and the cupola to remove chipped paint
- Repainting each clock face and the cupola
- Reapplication of the gold leaf clock hands, numerals, and minute markers
To facilitate this work, Garrity’s Way will be closed off to vehicles and pedestrians Monday – Saturday for the duration of the Town Hall cupola restoration project. Employees and Town Hall visitors are encouraged to access the Town Hall via the Chapel Street or Highland Avenue entrances. The payment drop box and election drop box will remain accessible to pedestrians. Closure of Garrity’s Way will begin October 12th and is anticipated to remain closed through early November. Handicap parking will be available on Chapel Street for those needing it to conduct business at Town Hall. Construction equipment will be moved to accommodate the Farmers’ Market on Sundays, Special Town Meeting on Monday, October 25th and Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 23rd. The project is expected to be complete in early November.
