Westwood Police Visit Local YMCA Summer Camp

The YMCA of Greater Boston and Boston Police Department partnered during the week of National Night Out.

Sergeant Paul Sicard shares safety tips and strategies – for both on and offline – with campers from the Parkway Community and Charles River YMCA’s.

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Sergeant Paul Sicard of the Westwood police department showed campers from West Roxbury and Charles River (Needham) YMCA’s that “catching bad guys” is only a small fraction of what local police do. Sgt. Sicard talked with campers about their use of online games and social media, and shared tips for personal safety and self-protection for both on and offline. Campers learned about the equipment on Sicard’s belt, what it’s like to be handcuffed – including some handcuff demonstrations – and the many ways in which police help people.

The visit was coordinated by the YMCA of Greater Boston and the Boston Police Department National Night Out week, which aims to bring local police officers to camps and foster positive interactions with their community.
