The American Diabetes Association and the Father’s Day Council of Boston will honor Jack Huang as one of three recipients of this year’s Father of the Year Award. Each year, the American Diabetes Association and the Boston Father’s Day Council presents the Father of the Year Award to outstanding gentlemen, who are local business and community leaders, for balancing a highly successful career with the demands of being a great dad. Also being honored at this year’s event is Joe Kringdon, EVP of Pioneer Investments and Bill Loehning EVP of Fidelity Investments.
A longtime resident of Newton, Mr. Huang is CEO of Douzo Modern Japanese Restaurant and Lounge in Boston and Basho Japanese Brasserie near Fenway Park. As a teenager, Mr. Huang moved to Boston from Japan to study at Lexington Christian Academy before enrolling at Northeastern University. After completing his studies, he became one of the original partners in Brookline's Fugakyu, the area's premier sushi destination at the time.
In 2006, he opened Douzo Modern Japanese Restaurant and Lounge, a sleek restaurant and lounge in downtown Boston. Douzo was immediately welcomed by Boston's discerning culinary scene as a pioneer in impossibly fresh sushi and innovative, modern Japanese cuisine. Since opening, Douzo has garnered rave reviews from The Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix, as well as "Best of" awards from Boston Magazine, and The Improper Bostonian. Mr. Huang also received "Best New Comer of the year" by Zagat in 2007, and in 2012 he received a Master Certificate from Cornell University in Hospitality Management and Food Service Management.
