Boston Marathon Road Closures In Newton

Here's a list of roads that will be closed in Newton. And be careful where you park on Marathon Monday.

NEWTON, MA — On Monday, April 16, nearly 30,000 runners will make their way through Newton - up Washington Street to Comm Ave before turning onto Chestnut Hill Ave and then Beacon Street as part of the 122nd running of the Boston Marathon. And if you've lived here for any sort of time you know it's pretty magnificent to watch at the firehouse or, really, anywhere along that route. But it also means road closures.

Washington Street, and Comm Ave they're all pretty much going to be shut down from 8 a.m. until about 5 p.m. along the route, according to Newton Police who have been working with the Boston Athletic Association and law enforcement agencies for the past six months on the security plan along the route.

This year, as with last year, be mindful of the bags and coolers you bring, as Newton Police are warning it means they could be subject to search by them. • 8:30 a.m. from the Wellesley line – Washington Street to Beacon Street
• 8 a.m. from Beacon Street at Washington Street to Washington Street to Commonwealth Avenue
• 8 a.m. from Washington Street at Commonwealth Avenue to the Boston line

Careful where you park:
Parking restrictions will also be in place along the Marathon route, Commonwealth Avenue – carriage lanes and portions of streets that feed into the Marathon route.

Even residents Residents who live nearby and abut the marathon route will have limited access on Homer Street between Commonwealth Avenue and Walnut Street, Walnut Street between Commonwealth Avenue and Homer Street, Cummings Road and North Street. That area is considered "a Police Security Zone," and therefore will be open to abutters only from 9a.m. to 6 p.m.
