Growing Fruit Trees in New England

If you would like to grow fruit trees we can show you how to be successful. Late winter is the time to both plan a fruit tree garden and order for spring delivery.  You'll learn how to select, plant, and manage your fruit trees—without a lot of effort. The basic requirement for growing fruit trees is to have a location with at least 5 hours of summer sun. We'll talk about how to grow dwarf and semi-dwarf trees that can thrive in a small area; how to select and purchase an apple, peach, pear, plum, or cherry variety that's resistant to diseases; and how to prune and care for it. Other fruiting plants, such as raspberries and blueberries, will also be discussed. You'll be able to enjoy your own fresh fruit in one or two years. The first class will be held at Newton North HS 7-9pm. The second class will be held Saturday, April 28th from 8-10am, at the Newton Community Farm. The rain date is Sunday, April 29th from 8-10am.
