Sign Up Now! Biodiesel - Fuel of the Future

Biodiesel is a fuel that is made by combining vegetable and/or animal fats with alcohol to cause a chemical reaction. Biodiesel can be used in any car with a diesel engine without any modification and has become so popular in recent years that it is being offered at gas stations alongside traditional diesel and gasoline. Visit the Newton North Greengineering lab for a hands-on course to learn about small-scale biodiesel production. You'll discover how to collect waste vegetable oil stock, design and set up a small scale production line, manage the chemical reactions, and purify the final product so that it can be used in your car or in your home as heating oil. We will provide protective equipment such as gloves, full length chemical-resistant aprons, goggles, and other necessary safety equipment. Wear closed toe shoes and long pants as we'll be using caustic chemicals and the grease can get messy at times.
