This workshop will provide an engaging (and entertaining) environment where each participant, whether beginner or experienced writer, can have their work taken seriously, critiqued non- judgmentally, all with the goal of turning one’s self-expression into art. We will work on generating new ideas and new poetry, discuss the craft of poetry, and review the work of contemporary poets. As Mary Oliver points out in A Poetry Handbook, the creative imagination must be courted, and “it learns quickly what sort of courtship it is going to be.” If pursued with commitment, it will show up. The best way to prove that commitment is by attending a weekly poetry workshop. Bring (6) copies of an original poem to the first class if you have one, if not, bring paper and pencil and we’ll go to work. Come, our instructor guarantees you’ll have more than a few laughs along the way.
