Newton Community Education invites you to join us in the Celebration of Baseball:
Just as baseball players need spring training to prepare them for the season, fans need their own version of spring training to get ready to enjoy the game. As the players jog, run and stretch to prepare to play, we will focus on three key aspects of the game: pitching, hitting, and fielding. You'll learn to recognize the different pitches — from Roger Clemons' fastball to Tim Wakefield's slow knuckleball — and the pluses and minuses of each pitch. You'll understand how hitters attempt to hit the various pitches, why Ted Williams was such a great hitter, and why his method is not best for everyone. We'll also explore the secrets of fielding and proper fielding positions. While this may not be everything you need to know about baseball, it will get you into better shape to appreciate the game before opening day.
