NEWTON, MA -- The following are excerpts from the Newton Police Department.

Dec. 30

  • Police responded to Needham Street for a past larceny of bicycles. The resident said that sometime between Nov. 23 and Dec. 28 two of his bicycles were taken from the locked room. Both were men’s hybrid, Trek FX 7.1 models, black in color. A maintenance worker found one of the bicycles in the parking garage.
  • Police responded to Waltham Street for a report of past vandalism. The resident showed police damage that was done to her vinyl fence in the front of her property. She stated that the fence had been broken and detached from the other sections of her fence. It appears that the fence was damaged due to someone pushing or ripping the fence down.
  • Police were dispatched to 276 Church St. at the YMCA for a report of past larceny. When police arrived, they spoke with the manager on duty, and the reporting party said he placed his belongings in a locker in the men’s room and secured it with a lock around 6 p.m. When he came back he noticed his lock appeared to have been tampered with and damaged. He then went home and realized that his wallet had been gone through. Four $20 bills were missing.
  • Police again responded to the YMCA for another report of larceny. The reporting party had gone into the office around 7:30 p.m. to report larceny. He said he placed his belongings in a locker in the men’s room and left it unsecured. When he returned, he realized his cash had been stolen. He believes about $50 in cash was taken. The manager said she sent a male employee in the locker room to check and found several lockers open. That employee checked again later, and found all of the lockers had been opened and left ajar.
