Newton Man Indicted By Middlesex Grand Jury For Coffee Shop Arson

Another man was indicted by the grand jury on drug trafficking charges.

NEWTON, MA — Two men were indicted by the Middlesex District Attorney for crimes they were alleged to have committed recently in Newton, the DA announced Dec.13. These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Daniel Kim, 49, of Newton, was charged with arson of a building and placing a destructive device. The Assistant District Attorney is Kristen Noto. Kim allegedly masterminded and came up with the arson of the building his father owned in Newton Highlands. During the fire he allegedly set in the basement of Broken Grounds coffee shop, he became trapped and had to be rescued by Newton Fire fighters Patch first reported (see below). The fire happened the day after the
Jose Ramos, 31, of Boston, was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The Assistant District Attorney is Wendi Safran.
