Newton Marks 50th MLK Day Celebration

Here's what to expect.

NEWTON, MA — Each year to mark the city's celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., city officials and community members gather and listen to a number of performances with the mission, life and legacy of Dr. King in mind.

This year as the city marks the 50th such celebration, the first under Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, look for performances from groups the city has traditionally called upon:

The Myrtle Baptist Church’s The Love Tones as well as a choral group of local seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-graders (Newton All City Troubadours); and Newton All City Treble Singers, which includes singers in the fifth and sixth grades. Pastor Sean Witty will host Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, former mayor Setti Warren, and Newton Public Schools Superintendent David Fleishman.
