Newton No. 15 on Money Magazine's 'Best Places to Live 2014'

The ranking comes days after Newton was ranked the best big city to live in the country.

Newton this week was again recognized for its quality of life in a national survey.

Money Magazine ranked Newton No. 15 on its “Best Places to Live 2014” list. Last week, 24/7 Wall St. ranked Newton No. 1 on its list of the best big cities to live in the country.

Money Magazine cited the high quality of Newton’s schools, large employers like Boston College, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and Trip Advisor, and initiatives like the N-Squared Innovation Corridor for Newton’s high ranking.

A downside, Money Magazine said, is Newton’s lack of affordable housing. Realtor Michael Spurr said starter homes can cost $500,000.

  • Median family income: $150,821
  • Median home price: $740,000
  • Average property taxes: $8,580
  • Job growth: 4 percent

McKinney, Texas topped Money Magazine’s list. Brookline was the only other Massachusetts community to rank in the top 50.
