NEWTON, MA â Get your sleds ready, folks. Newton Public Schools will not have school Friday, Jan. 5. This comes after a day off Thursday on account of the historic blizzard with extreme coastal flooding that slammed into the region.
Earlier today Waltham declared a snow day as did Boston. Newton made the announcement at 6 p.m.
Five snow days are built-in to the calendar per state law. June 20-26 are built-in as make-up days for any weather cancellations.

The district waits until April 1 (once the threat of winter storms has really passed) to make the official announcement of what the official last day of school will be.
Right now students will be in school through June 20.... but that could easily change.
