📰 News we're reading
• First Look At Newton Crossing As Development Prepares For Leasing (patch.com) — Newton residents are getting a detailed first look at Newton Crossing, a 292-unit mixed-use development on Washington Street that's preparing to start leasing this fall near the West Newton commuter rail station. The project will include extensive amenities, public access to Cheesecake Brook, and 73 income-restricted apartments, following its approval under Chapter 40B and a housing lottery held earlier this summer.

• Zoning & Planning examines home demolitions and replacements (figcitynews.com) — Newton's Zoning & Planning Committee is reviewing data showing hundreds of smaller, older homes—many under 2,000 square feet—being demolished and replaced with houses more than twice their size, often selling around $4 million. Councilors are weighing whether to tighten demolition rules, revisit zoning, and possibly change the city's demolition-delay process, decisions that could shape future housing options in neighborhoods like Waban, Newton Centre, and West Newton.
