Patch Picks: Best Burgers in Newton
From the basic beef burger to some exotic variations, fabulous burgers can be found all over Newton. These are our picks for where to get your hands around a great patty.
The origins of the hamburger are a bit of a mystery (really, who first thought of chopping up meat and making it into a patty?), but nobody questions the deliciousness of a juicy burger on a well-toasted bun complemented with all of your favorite toppings and condiments.
– It’s still up for debate whether Met Bar is in Brookline or Newton, but their burgers are definitely worth “crossing the border” for either way. They have an entire, separate burger menu including their own house blend of beef and some international variations such as the Tokyo (avocado, Muenster cheese, pickled onions, soy sauce, radish sprouts and wasabi mayo) and the Paris (brie cheese, a fried egg, caramelized onion and truffle mayo).
– Open less than a month, word of mouth is already spreading about the fabulous burgers at Christina’s. Forget everything you know about turkey burgers: Christina’s are plump, juicy and enormous. You won’t even miss the beef. But if you do crave a beef burger with a twist, try Christina’s Greek burger garnished with a load of feta and a side of their delicious tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber sauce). Save some to dip your fries in!

– If you’ve got “burgers” in the name of your business, you’d better make a pretty good burger- and Lee’s delivers on the promise in its name. Big, juicy, delicious beef burgers are accompanied by some of the tastiest fries and crispiest onion rings you will find in all of Newton. There isn’t much room to sit down, so bring your burger home and enjoy not having to clean off the grill.
– “Have it your way” may have been the slogan for a fast-food burger chain, but at Union Street they really want you to have your burger exactly the way you want it. Choose from beef, turkey, veggie burger or a chicken breast and then personalize your burger by selecting from seven types of cheese, three different “saucing” options, and another ten toppings. Or, if that’s too much decision making to do on an empty stomach, pick from one of their ten Signature Burgers or get one of their infamous Stuffed Burgers.

– You’ve had a long day at work and all you want is a burger and a beer. What better place to put a happy end to your day than at a neighborhood tavern known for its burgers and its brews? But West Street Tavern takes their patties that extra mile, topping them with such unusual items as Irish bacon, a fried egg and Cajun mayo (not all on the same burger- don’t worry). Give your meal the illusion of healthiness by having a side of sweet potato fries.
