Springwell's Money Management Program Awarded Funds to help older adults at risk of financial exploitation

As reports of elder financial abuse rise, Springwell received word that long-time funding partner, The Village Bank, nominated Springwell’s Money Management Program for a grant from the Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation, and the program was selected for funding. Springwell’s Money Management Program volunteers provide monthly in-home assistance with routine money management tasks, provide guidance on how to stretch a budget and information about dangerous money scams. The program serves twenty-two greater Boston and MetroWest communities.

“This generous support from the Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation, and the nomination from The Village Bank makes a statement about their commitment to the most vulnerable members of our shared communities and especially those served by Springwell’s Money Management Program,” said Beth Schultz. “This program is provided free to vulnerable, low-income elderly and disabled residents, thanks to the partnership of a number of local corporate and foundation donors who close the gap between state funding for the program and the costs to run it.”

The Money Management Program recruits, trains and provides intense supervision to a corps of dedicated volunteers who provide monthly in-home assistance with routine money management tasks; guidance on how to stretch one’s budget; and education about money scams. Springwell collaborates with Mass Aging Access, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Aging and Indendence, and a Money Management Advisory Council, made up of bank representatives and community members, to maintain standards for the program.
