Great Escape: Relax with Music

Each week, we'll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Listening to a live concert can be an escape from everyday stresses. It is great way to let your thoughts vanish, as you feel the rhythm and beat of the music.

This Sunday, the New England Tenors will perform a Spring Concert at the  at 4pm.

The concert is a fund raiser to support the music program at the Unitarian-Universalist church.

Church Music Director and North Andover resident John Middleton-Cox is one of the three tenors performing. He explained that the 350 member church was "the first meeting house in town, and it has deep roots in the community."

The monies raised by the event will go toward purchasing new chorus risers and toward an emergency fund for the aging pipe organ, he said. The Church holds other music concerts during the year which are also open to the public.

In addition to Middleton-Cox, the other tenors are Damien Corcoran of Amesbury and Ray Bauwens of Rochdale, Mass.

Middleton-Cox described the program as an approachable mix of songs that will appeal to all ages.

The afternoon will feature songs made famous by the “The Three Tenors” and “The Irish Tenors” as well as solos, duets and medleys from some of Broadways best loved plays including West Side Story, Carousel and The Secret Garden. A set of inspirational songs including Amazing Grace, You Raise Me Up and the popular song from Shrek; “Hallelujah” will complete the program. The church choir will accompany the tenors in performing some of the songs.

He explained that they will also feature a guest violinist and pianist accompaniment, and everyone will enjoy desserts at a reception during intermssion.

The concert which will last an hour plus intermission "will leaving the audience wanting more," he said.
