Thousands Vote Early In North Andover State Primary Election

Over 4,000 ballots have been cast early, as of Friday morning, according to the town clerk.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Over 4,000 ballots had already been cast in the state primary in North Andover as of Friday morning, the town clerk said.

As of 10:30 a.m., 4,166 ballots had been accepted, town clerk Trudy Reid said. Over 7,000 ballots were mailed out.

All voters were eligible to vote by mail in the 2020 state primary, and in-person early voting lasted seven days, ending Friday at noon.

With over 4,000 ballots received, North Andover's voter turnout has already surpassed some state recent state primaries. In 2018, over 4,700 votes were cast in town, but fewer than 2,000 voted in 2016.

North Andover has several races on the ballot this year, with both Democrats and Republicans having contested senate primaries. U.S. House 6th District residents also have a Democratic primary to vote in, and the 18th Essex state house district has a Republican primary contest
