Bruins' Fist-Bump Boy Turns 10, Continues to Help Others
Liam Fitzgerald, who has Down syndrome and beat Leukemia, became a name when a video of him fist-bumping the Boston Bruins went viral.

In 2013, a story and video posted by the Boston Globe of an adorable boy with Down Syndrome who fist-bumped the Bruins players as they skated off the rink into the locker room quickly went viral. It was shared on countless news outlets, and sports pages, and won the USA Today polls “favorite fan video.”
Then 8-year-old Liam Fitzgerald, from Northborough, became an internet sensation, and everyone learned his story. Not only does he have Down Syndrome, but the boy beat leukemia.

Using his fame for more good, his parents launched a campaign to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and he hopes he will be named the LLS “Man of the Year.”
Fitzgerald continues to pay it forward. Celebrating his 10th birthday on Feb. 16, he’s asking for donations for the Bruins PJ Drive to support Cradles for Crayons, which runs through March 1.

Here’s what Fitzgerald is collecting:
- new pajamas (sizes 4/5T – 18/20)
- $10 provides one child with a pair of new pajamas. Please make checks payable to Cradles to Crayons.
- All donations PJ’s or checks can be mailed to Liam Fitzgerald, 27 Overlock Drive, Northborough, MA 01532.
“Thanks in advance to helping to pay it forward and help children in need! Best birthday gift ever!” wrote Fitzgerald’s mom Cathy the Facebook page.
