Decisions...

Thought and Poem

Thought and Poem

Have you even been in one of those situations where you have had to make a decision and you only had a few seconds to think? I have and I immediately begin to panic as I like to know all of my options before I choose what I am going to do. Although, not always are we in a position to have time to think so we go with our impulses and this is NOT always a good thing.

I find this to be true in cases when I go shopping for instance BEFORE I have had a meal or have been to the restroom before I leave for the store. When I get around the snack items, or the candy aisle, wouldn’t you know it...I have that urge to find a restroom…NOW. (If you are over 40 you will understand this more likely). Anyway, you are starving, and you see all these boxes of goodies flashing their smiles at you and shouting…“Pick me!” “Pick me!”

Immediately, your mind flashes back to your doctor’s orders, your dietary restrictions and the call for a toilet gets stronger so what do you do? No time to think as action in needed ASAP. I grab a handful of whatever I can grab first and throw it into the cart as I beginning running toward the public restrooms.

Now mind you from the impulse to the decision, I only had a few seconds. I knew what my doctor would have wanted and I knew what I shouldn’t eat…but…at this very moment, I had a brain freeze as I knew my time to decide was limited so I did what I do best…I took what I wanted disregarding all logic.

But all is not bad in the end though. I can get over the guilt. What makes me happy is that I did make a decision…right or wrong…and after leaving the restroom, I do not have to go back to the snack or candy aisle on the other side of the store, as I was able to make a firm decision before I left these aisles. Now I head to the check out faster than the speed of light before guilt overrides what I chose to buy.

Decisions

When something comes up and you don’t know what to do
You are on a time crunch yet you still must choose
What do you do...what will you do;
Your blood pressure is rising; a brain freeze leaves you confused.

Somewhere down the line
In all of our lives
We have to make decisions with only seconds to think
And it will leave us swimming or perhaps it might cause us to sink.

Whenever I have to go somewhere or have a decision to make
I always have a backup plan in case something goes wrong or if I should make a mistake
Because my life is so full of ups and downs
I need to be prepared for what may come around.

So this is my suggestion to you
In case split second decisions leave you confused too
Take a deep breath it may happen; like it or not
Then use your inner strengths and give it all you’ve got.
