Some stores opened last week, others over the weekend, and the area awaits some to launch...namely Wegman's.

The construction of Northborough Crossing, a 600,000-plus square- foot open-air shopping center situated atop a scenic hilltop at the juncture of Route 9 and Route 20 in Northborough, Massachusetts is now complete with many of the development’s new stores opening for business on Labor Day weekend.

Northborough Crossing features exciting anchors like the very first Wegmans in New England, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Toys/Babies “R” Us, Kohl’s, Golf Town, PetSmart, T.J. Maxx and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The innovative addition of smaller lifestyle retailers at Northborough Crossing creates a diverse mix of shopping alternatives.

Ideally situated between Boston’s MetroWest suburbs and the thriving Worcester market, Northborough Crossing is located at the intersection of two of Massachusetts’ major cross-state highways: Route 9 - the state’s dense retail corridor - and Route 20.

Northborough Crossing is 99 percent leased with most of new retailers expected opening by the end of the year.

Most of the development’s new stores, like BJ’s Wholesale Club, T.J. Maxx, Golf Town, Ulta Beauty, Jos. A. Bank, Wet Seal, Toys/Babies “R” Us, Charming Charlie, Dress Barn, Yankee Candle, and more officially opened for business during the first week of September.

Wegmans, a major family-owned regional supermarket chain and one of the largest private companies in the U.S. which offers better quality goods, spectacular choice, restaurant-quality prepared foods, and a unique level of customer service plans to open on Oct 16.

“There has been an impressive amount of growth in population, income and enterprise in this MetroWest region," said Issie Shait, senior vice president, property management, New England Development. "Northborough Crossing responds to that growth by providing an exciting and much needed retail destination for this community. The inclusion of New England’s very first
Wegmans only adds to the excitement around the opening of this new development.”

Developed by New England Development in partnership with Brendon Properties and The Wilder Companies, the new shopping center responds to a need for a retail center of this capacity in this rapidly growing region.

Northborough Crossing is part of a 175-acre master-planned community totaling over one million square feet that includes 382 residential units at Avalon Northborough, developed by Avalon Bay Communities Inc., a nationwide residential development firm. The Northborough Crossing project represents a private investment exceeding $100 million and that has generated approximately 600 construction jobs and 1,200 new permanent jobs upon completion.
