Picnic Delights...

Thought and a Poem

One never has to have a reason to invite people to their home during the summer months...but good weather is necessary.

There is nothing better than eating a hot dog that has been cooked on a grill (except eating a hot dog at Fenway Park). And who doesn’t love fresh squeezed lemonade and ice tea and all the rest of the good that people serve or bring.

There might be a volleyball game or a horse-shoe toss being played to work off all the food the folks will eat...but...if you invited me to your picnic you will find me staying close to the food on a picnic table and too stuffed to move from my seat!

Picnic Delights....

Summer picnics can be a lot of fun...
For just about everyone who will come...
As there will be burgers and hot dogs cooking on the grill...
And there will be some potato salad made with eggs, mayo, basil and a little pinch of dill.

There may be some fresh-cut veggies and dips...
Jars of olives, pickles and if course...some potato chips...
Corn on the cob and butter spread...
A tossed salad, sliced watermelon and maybe some bread.

The children will all be running around...
The dog will be close behind them eating what they dropped to the ground...
Women folks will keep busy making sure all have enough to eat...
While the men group together under the shade of a tree.

But no matter how well you might plan...
Or how much good is on hand...
Having nice weather with the wind blowing a light breeze...
Is the main feature that will set the stage to get together to eat good food with good company!
