School is out...

Thought and Poem

Thought and Poem - June 24, 2105

School is out for many this month. Those who graduated from college or high school are anxious to put there learned skills to practice and begin their chosen careers.

For those in the younger grades, the last day of the school year means a summer free from the four walls of their classrooms. It means more time to fish, go swimming, and play baseball, basketball, football, soccer or even volleyball. For those who want to save up for something they want to buy or for their future these might babysit, do off jobs, work at the local ice cream bar, or work at just about any place they are old enough to work at that will pay them a little cash.

Then you have some younger ones and even some graduates who will spend the summer doing nothing that involves having to use their minds any more than they have to. These will watch a TV, listen to music, raid the refrigerator, play video games and spend their summer on the couch doing nothing that takes effort.

School being out for summer vacation means parents are stocking the fridge, filling the pool and counting down the days and hours until the school doors open again.

School is out!

On the last day of school we emptied out our desks...
Hard to believe we could learn anything with our desk being such a mess.
We threw away the broken pencils and erasers we will never use again...
And we keep our eyes fixed on the clock on the wall while waiting for summer vacation to begin.

Unless we have jobs we can spend the summer in bed...
Using our time not for homework but to relaxing instead…
And hanging with our buddies out by the pool...
Passing the hot summer by as the water helps to keeps our bodies cool.

No more rules...well some...
Rules make sure summer vacation will be enjoyed by everyone.
You’ll have to do your chores as you did before...
You can play ball all you want as long as it is outdoors.

No extra kids in the house unless the parents are home…
There will be a time limit if you use the house phone…
You can have all you want to eat…
Just make sure you clean up your mess and put your dishes in the sink.

After a while even the kids will be glad when summer vacation ends…
And they can be back in school with their friends again…
Parents will rejoice when they hear the school bells ring..
Students will fill their desk with new pencils and erasers and will be prepared when teachers again begin doing their thing…teaching.
