Shrewsbury PD’s K9 Buzzy took his final ride on Sunday past the department headquarters, a proper send-off by not only Shrewsbury officers, but units from surrounding towns, who saluted him and showed their signs of respect. Officer Buzzy passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Dec. 28, said Shrewsbury police. He was nine years old.
Buzzy and his partner Officer Chad Chysna served together on the Shrewsbury Police from 2008. In 2008 they attended the Boston Police Department K-9 Academy for patrol and then the Worcester Police K-9 Academy for narcotics training. They were also nationally certified through the U.S. Police K-9 Association. Throughout their career Officer Chysna and his partner Buzzy received numerous commendations and awards. K-9 Buzzy proudly served the Town Of Shrewsbury to the end and will be missed, said Shrewsbury police in a press release.

“Buzzy is not only a phenomenal police dog, but he is fantastic with my family as well,” said Buzzy’s handler Chad Chysna in an interview with Patch in 2012, when the department was raising funds to buy the dog a bullet-proof vest. Chysna was Buzzy’s handler for seven years.
