Thought and Poem – April 19, 2015
Will there ever be a time in our lives when we will be content to live our lives the way they were meant to be and to not always have to wish we could be somewhere else in time? Complaining has become like a disease for me. I blame this on my parents as I just copied what they did when they were around me. Always wishing they could have more or do more so why would I not do the same?
I can remember the warm days of summer. BORING, I used to think. Our daily routine consisted of getting up and making our beds, having a little breakfast and then mother would send us outside to play. Once we were outside she locked the door, so I am not too sure what her daily routine consisted of…okay…moving on.

Since we did not have a lot of “toys,” as the video, electronic things were not yet on the shelves in the stores, we created our own fun. I mean how could we not? We had all that we wanted of the great outdoors!
For the most part we spent our days riding our bicycles, swinging on a rope swing, rolling in the grass and lying on the ground under the shade of a tree and wishing we were somewhere else. I don’t know why or how we knew that being somewhere else in time or location was going to make life better for us but we begged for this time to come…FAST. Who knew?

Now, I couldn’t fit my butt on the base of a swing if it was a double wide. I couldn’t bend my knees to ride a bicycle. And there is NO WAY I was going to try climbing trees…I might touch a bug…or something else! But this too is just an excuse. I couldn’t lift my weight two inches off the ground if my life depended on it. So tell me again…why children just can’t be children and they have to whine about needing to rush into their futures? You got me!
What about you? Do you remember the days when you were young and could do more than you can do today yet you complained about the fact that you did them? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst
Time Will Get Here Fast Enough…Who Knew?
Do you remember when you used to climb trees?
Ride bikes, fall and skin your knees?
When you used to have life so easy
Chasing butterflies in the fields and when we could run so simply?
Those days when we hated to follow rules,
At home, at school,
We wanted to do our own thing
And to be able to do things our way…we would think.
Ha! How quickly the tables turned
How we should have listened up…and learned,
That all things have a time and place
And we should have enjoyed our childhood and accepted those days with grace!
And now we have children of our own,
Who do nothing but complain and moan,
About how boring it can be
To ride bikes all day and climb trees.
Wait, we tell them
Tomorrows will be here soon enough and you will know what I meant,
When I told you over and over again,
Enjoy the days of your youth…and STOP COMPLAINING!
