Fifes, fiddles & rocking meolodons: early American instrument making in New England

Musical instrument making has a long tradition
in New England and instruments made by New England craftsman are among the
greatest strengths of the musical instrument collection at the Museum of Fine
Arts Boston. In his talk at North Bennet Street School, Darcy Kuronen, curator
of musical instruments at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston presents a survey of
early American instruments, with stories about the craftsmen who made them and
how they were used during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.  Mr.
Kuronen and a violinist will demonstrate two early violins, a guitar, a
flageolet and a melodeon from the Museum’s collection.
