International exhibit of design bindings opens July 18 at North Bennet St. School

La Couleur Du Vent (The Color of the Wind) showcases the remarkable book binding skills of 51 French, Canadian and American artists who are all graduates of l’Ecole Estienne in Paris and/or members of Les Amis de la Reliure d'Art du Canada (Friends of the Art of Bookbinding of Canada). 
The free, public exhibit is open for viewing weekdays from July 18 through September 12, 2014, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm in the Windgate Gallery at North Bennet Street School, 150 North Street, Boston. The opening reception, scheduled for Friday, July 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, is sponsored by the New England Guild of Book Workers, the American Academy of Bookbinding and North Bennet Street School. 
Although the printed content of all 51 books in the exhibit is exactly the same (called a “set book”), each binding is crafted with the unique materials and methods that reflect the maker’s skills and artistic interpretation. 
North Bennet Street School, which offers training programs and workshops in bookbinding, is the fourth stop of the show’s international touring schedule.  The exhibit originated in Paris, then traveled to Quebec City, Montreal and Trois-Rivières, Quebec before arriving this month in Boston.
