Let's Play 2! It's A Doubleheader Saturday For North Reading Baseball & Softball

Finish cutting the lawn, running the errands, and all your other chores early this Saturday. You'll want to be at the high school by 4 p.m. for an MIAA baseball and softball doubleheader featuring the best of North Reading.

When the Hornets' softball team started the year with a 9-3 loss to Tewksbury, it didn't seem likely the Hornets would be the team to beat in the Division 2 North tournament. But with the announcement of the pairings Tuesday, that's exactly what happened.

North Reading finished the year 18-2 and is the top seed in the tournament after a season that included just one other loss, to Marblehead two weeks ago. Tewksbury and Marblehead have one more thing in common, a first round matchup thanks to Marblehead being the No. 6 seed, Tewksbury the 11th.

North Reading got a preliminary-round bye before hosting Swampscott (12-9) on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the first round. Swampscott beat Pentucket, 7-0, in a preliminary round game.

The North Reading baseball team also made the tournament and is the No. 14 seed in Division 3 North at 10-10. The Hornets will host Saugus (8-12) on Saturday at 4 p.m.. With a win, they'll earn a rematch with Lynnfield on Sunday.

That's two great tournament games, both at 4 p.m., at the high school. Definitely finish those chores early.
