Norton Murder: Estranged Husband Pleads Not Guilty

NORTON, MA — Norton police said a woman’s murder at the hands of her estranged husband Wednesday night was a “senseless” tragedy.

Julie Meede, 34, of 2 Holmes St., was stabbed to death by Martin McDonald, 35, of Weymouth, police said. McDonald then got into his Dodge Ram pickup truck, drove on Route 495, then veered into the opposite lane of traffic and struck another vehicle head-on. The other driver, a 30-year-old Rhode Island woman, was seriously injured.

Norton police said it was a tragic case of domestic violence.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and her family during this difficult time,” police said in a statement.

McDonald pleaded not guilty to murder charges in Attleboro District Court Thursday. He was ordered held without bail and is due back in court March 2.
