Bail On Hold For Norwood Man Accused Of Shooting At Police
The suspect's arraignment was in the hospital because police said he is recovering from a bullet he shot at police grazing his own head.
WALPOLE, MA — A Norwood man accused of leading police on a chase several miles down Route 1 A and firing a gun at officers, after crashing into their cruiser is being held without bail for 60 days. Bail was set at $100,000, following the temporary revocation.
Steven Brant, 31 pleaded not guilty Wednesday at his arraignment Wednesday, according to the Patriot Ledger. Brant's arraignment was at Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston because while trying to shoot police, one of the bullets from his own gun grazed his head. Brant's charges include illegal possession and discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, driving on a revoked license and negligent driving.
On Nov. 19 around 11:20 p.m., Norwood Police tried pulling over Brant. Brant at first stopped, but Police Chief William Brooks said he sped off as soon as the officer got out of his cruiser. The high-speed chase ended near Kendall Street in Walpole, where Brant struck a telephone pole. After striking the pole, police said, the car spun before crashing into a police cruiser.
